First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the Scottish Government and the people of Scotland, wish all Muslim communities in Scotland and beyond, Ramadan Mubarak.

"The ninth month of the Islamic Lunar calendar and this great religious observance in Islam teaches patience, humility, and spirituality. This month of fasting - from sunrise to sunset each day - and spiritual reflection, also places a particular focus on family and charity, reminding Muslims to consider those less fortunate, those who may not know what or when their next meal will be.

"That selflessness is an example we can all follow. This Government values the positive influence Islam has on our communities, and the rich tartan tapestry of faiths add to our strength as One Scotland with many cultures.

"May your Ramadan bring peace and blessings."

what's the point in an independent Scotland when there's nothing Scottish about it anymore? I mean there's always going to be attachment to the land which will never change no matter what immigrants move there, but the history and feel of the place will be completely different. It's these phoney nationalists that really piss me of.

Thats exactly what l was thinking when l read the article - what a joke. Remember the Who song: "bring in the new boss - same as the old boss".
Most polticians are the same right throughout the West - traitors.

What about Christianity?
Yes, we should love one another, but although we allow Muslims to build mosques here, Christians are not allowed to build christian churches in Islamic countries. Christians are being killed daily for their beliefs, but little is said about this by the media.

It would be interesting to see a scientific examination of what it is that constitutes 'the positive influence of Islam on our communities.' Is it the pedophile gangs? The street crime? The bigotry against non-muslims? I see numerous negative influences, but no positive ones. Not a single one.
