He doesn't specify what he means by 'counter' here, but since he calls on Muslims to develop IT skills to do this 'countering', the strong inference must be that he means website hacking. After all, countering ideas with reasoned argument does not require any special IT expertise.
Muslims need to have knowledge and expertise on information technology (IT) to counter Islamophobia in cyberspace, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said the explosion of IT now had resulted in Internet websites that openly condemned Islam.

"Before it was territorial war but now it is war in cyberspace to influence the thinking of the people. Now there exist websites that resort to Islam bashing," he told reporters after opening the 'Islamic Thinking after Modernism"

international conference here today. He said the people responsible for these websites were working systematically to deride all aspects of Islam particularly its history, the Quran and Hadith and Prophet Muhammad.

Ahmad Shabery said Islamic thinkers needed to play a role in countering these attacks which were aimed at destroying Islam.

He added that he hoped the delegates attending the conference, which is organised by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (Istac), would be up to the task.
