October 10 was the anniversary of the legendary battle of Tours/Poitiers in which Charles Martel defeated the marauding Arab hordes.
According to the Poitiers prosecutor of the republic, Nicolas Jacquet, it involved a white fabric of around 2 metres by 2.5. It was hung on the 3rd floor of a wall on the mosque "not directly visible from the public road", "probably" on Thursday night, according to the magistrate.

A spokesman for the group Génération Identitaire, which claimed responsibility for the occupation of this same mosque on 20 October 2012, declared that they were "not aware" of the banner. "We have nothing to do with it," he stated.
