This relates to a "Moroccan-Belgian" football player called Zakaria Bakkali. Bakkali has apparently been hesitating about whether he should play international football for the Moroccan team or for Belgium. Philippe Vande Walle, a former Belgian goalkeeper, now working as a sports commentator, posted this message on Twitter.
Bakkali Red Devil [tn: Red Devils is the nickname of the Belgian national football team]..."I still don't know"!!!... That's starting to get on my nerves. The "pure Belgians" (Meunier,Vossen) come crawling" [tn: to get in the team]

Accusations of racism immediately started to fly around social networks.
"These remarks are serious and contrary to the values that public television and radio intends to defend. We have suspended him from the air as of this Sunday," explains Bruno Deblander, a spokesman for the channel.

On Monday, Philippe Vande Walle will be summoned to Reyers Street, in front of the directors of information and sport. "We are going to ask for explanations for his remarks," continues the RTBF spokesman. Who also adds: "But, above all, we're going to explain the measures we plan to take towards him." According to our information, these measures will include the immediate termination of work with the former goalkeeper.

The oppressors are so righteous. The slightest comment reults in your ruination.

Well let me first off say that he shouldn't have been sacked over this comment, maybe disciplined a little but not sacked, but yeah I have to agree that the term "pure Belgian" is indeed a bit archaïc and slightly uncomfortable towards other people who are living in Belgium but aren't ethnically Belgian themselves - that's the term he should have used, 'ethnic Belgian' because that's what he refers to. And let's say he did use the term ethnic Belgium and still got sacked because of that, then I would've totally agreed that this is an overreach of political correctness. even though it's still uncalled for either way. But definitely 'pure Belgian' is not a term I would recommend to be used in any situation, formal or informal

And I'm not saying let's get rid of freedom of speech. I think people should be able to say whatever they want to say and that people should be allowed to deny the Holocaust or whatever (I don't) but don't be surprised when society decides that you are to be reprimanded (formal situations) for the use of certain terms or expression of certain ideas

he shouldn't of been disciplined at all, the country belongs to the Belgians, they built it, it's theirs. Not the possession of aliens who have no deed to it.
