This happened in Dreux in France.
Thursday: a police patrol, in Bâtes, came across a 'jeune' who had been released the night before in connection with a drug-related offence, with a summons to appear in front of a court. Confronted by an attitude they judged to be provocative, the officers tried to arrest him. But one of the police officers was blocked by passers-by, who then took flight, along with the suspect.

In the afternoon, the escapee was found by another patrol. His refusal to submit to lawful authority led the police officers to use a certain amount of force to arrest him. Several persons threw stones. One of them was arrested. The use of force by the police was judged excessive by the witnesses and by the person's mother. Along with others, she went to the police station at around 5 pm. To avoid things getting out of hand, the police station was closed and evacuated.

Later on the mother was arrested and charged with insult, committing a second offence, and inciting a riot. What's amazing, though, is that the entire police station was shut down and evacuated as soon as the mother of a criminal and a mob of 'jeunes' turn up. Are these new guidelines that have been issued to French police in the week of the Muslim riots in Trappes?

In WWI, the French shelled their own troops when they refused to advance. Now they run away with their tails between their legs from a handful of North African teenagers.

Here in Rio de Janeiro the police stormed the hills occupied by the drug dealers and the No-go areas with armoured vehicles and machine guns a couple of years ago and sent them running. Maybe a delegation of the French police should come to Brazil to learn how to do their job properly.
