The social transformation Mallorca has experienced in the last decade because of foreign immigration has had consequences on the demographic composition of many municipalities, which means that the main group of foreigners is no longer that of Germans of Britons, but Moroccans.
Citizens from Morocco, for example, form the dominant foreign group in 14 municipalities in Mallorca, most of them in the interior. In contrast to what happens in the tourist-oriented municipalities, where the dominant group is German or British, in many municipalities in the interior, it is Moroccans who are the most numerous.
According to the latest figures from the Institute of National Statistics, a total of 242,570 foreigners live in the islands, which represents 21.67% of the total population of the community.
