Islam versus Europe

According to a study recently published by the Austrian government, 1 in 3 (33.4%) residents of Vienna is an immigrant. 42% of children in the city's schools did not ordinarily use German to communicate with the people around them. Of the various segments of the Viennese population, only the Turks are reproducing at above replacement level (2.48 children per woman).

This study refers only to first-generation immigrants, so if you take into account previous generations of colonists, Vienna may well now be more than 50% foreign.

"Vienna has fallen!" In 1683, those words would have sent a ripple of apprehension throughout Europe, and so they should now.

Looking at the map of foreign colonists by district, it brings a phrase from Yeats' poem "The Second Coming" to mind: the centre cannot hold. The rest of the poem seems fairly appropriate too:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
