Yesterday the PxC (Plataforma per Catalunya) party held a rally in Barcelona to demonstrate for freedom of expression. The impulse to do this followed from a ban previously imposed on an anti-mosque protest the party had intended to hold in Salt.

Josep Anglada, the leader of PxC, accused all of the mainstream political parties of being "complicit in the islamisation of Catalonia" and declared "every mosque built on Catalan soil is a victory for islamism and a defeat for a Catalonia that is European and Christian".

As he spoke, a man stood in front of him wearing a burka woven from the flags of all the establishment political parties in Spain.

A large number of leftist militants attempted to disrupt the rally but were held back by a heavy police presence.
