Aiman Mazyek, leader of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, is calling for the term "Islamic terrorism" to be abandoned. "The causes of the terror in Norway should be not sought in religion. Because terror and violence, regardless of where and in whatever form, has no religion."

After what happened in Norway, Germany's integration policy and its treatment of Muslims must radically change, he believes. Prejudices against Muslims must be eliminated, he says, in order to confront xenophobia.

"Our alarm bells should now be ringing whenever xenophobic and islamophobic books become bestsellers. Politics and the media must show a new side of Islam and finally take up the struggle against de-humanising, racist ideologies."

The Turk Kamuran Sezer, an adviser on integration to the Red-Green North-Rhine Westphalia state government, says one consequence of the Norway tragedy must be that German recognises it is a "multi-ethnic and multi-religious society" and must learn to see this as "normal". This is "the only solution that can guarantee social peace".

Meanwhile two German CDU politicians are calling for the islamo-realist blog PI (Politically Incorrect) to be subject to monitoring by the Germany Agency for the Protection of the Constitution. The agency has so far refused to do this, however, saying that it sees no threat to the constitution there.
