Speaking in the House of Commons, David Cameron has just announced that a new law relating to face masks will be passed. He claims police will be able to ask anyone to remove face masks at any time. Presumably this "police discretion" will also extend to burkas. But there may be some potential here to ban masks (and burkas) completely rather than simply give police the option to ask for their removal.

I have no confidence that this will be done, however. But if there was some tough-minded faction within the Conservative Party that had hitherto remained quiet, this would be the time for it to assert itself.

I am not of the Muslim faith, however this CANNOT be allowed to occur in any way. It disregards human rights on multiple levels, regardless of religious belief, and dissuades PEACEFUL protests from being able to occur.
