Cristina Odone, the immigrant who failed to catch Johann Hari's fraud in its early stages when she was his editor at the New Statesman, thinks Britain has a lot to learn from Islam:
Islam has much to teach British culture: abstemious self-discipline, respect for elders, modesty, charity.

And just in case you didn't get the message, she repeats it.
Islam, I repeat, has much to teach Britain.

I posted this comment on her blog. She had it deleted, along with the few other most highly recommended posts saying substantially the same thing.
Islam has nothing to teach Britain except what a bad idea it is to let primitive aliens colonise your country.

"Abstemious self-discipline"

Mindless obedience to irrational authority.

"Respect for elders"

Subservience induced by violence.

"Modesty"

Shame of one's own instincts and nature.

"Charity"

Indirect jihad. Muslims give charity only to other Muslims. Zakat is a way of supporting jihad warfare against the infidel without participating in it directly.

But Odone's post is typical of mainstream media commentators. Whenever they summon up the courage to utter even the slightest criticism of Islam, they feel it necessary to accompany it with some mention of what a great religion Islam is and how much it has to offer us.

Islam has nothing to offer us. It is the most poisonous system of ideas that has ever existed. It has no redeeming features.

A bit unfair. According to Private Eye, she actually told the editor Peter Wilby that Hari was making things up.

Fair enough. I stand corrected. Still, she obviously wasn't emphatic enough about it otherwise Hari would have been stopped in his tracks.

I believe she was his editor during his alleged visit to Finsbury Park mosque, which I would love to know more about.

The moderation on that blog is nothing short of a disgrace.
Funny how the Catholic Church can be slagged off repeatedly (and sometimes rightly so) but the mere criticism of Islam results in whole posts wiped off.

The Telegraph moderation is usually more easy-going than that. That's what makes me think it was Odone intervening personally to get the messages deleted.

Possibly but I'm more inclined to think it's some gobshite moderator who sits in a dingy office or some PC addicted jobsworth who keeps reporting comments.
A mixture of both is my best guess.

BTW, like the new layout but the title with the bright sun is harsh on the peepers and maybe better a bit clearer...ok, I'll get my coat. :-)

Yeah I'm going to create some alternate versions of the graphic when I have time, probably over the weekend.
