Translation of an article I found on a French site:
On the initiative of the Christian Union (ChristenUnie), one of the parties that has been a member of the political coalition in power since last October, the Dutch parliament voted yesterday [Friday, 1st July] for a resolution asking the Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister, Uri Rosenthal (member of the People's Party for Liberty and Democracy) to demand that the Iraqi government and the European Union recognise and protect the Iraqi Christians living currently in the enclave on the plain of Nineveh.

To protect themselves against the daily threats and attacks of Islamists, and because of the Baghdad government's failure to act, these Christians have set up a 5000-man strong police force. Since to this date Baghdad has refused to recognise this police protection force, it lacks the technical means and the legal power to arrest the Islamist attackers and to refer them to civil tribunals. This is the purpose of the motion proposed by the Dutch legislator: that this protection force be recognised, trained and financed so that it can fulfil its mission in the plain of Nineveh.
