The Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard is to establish a foundation that will offer an annual prize to those who have served the cause of free speech in the face of adversity.

Once a year, the Board and an Advisory Board nominate five candidates for the prize: the Westergaard Award — a winner will be announced around November / December and a subsequent award ceremony is to take place.

The nominees will all be people who have shown the courage to stand up agains oppression. People who for example through poems, movies, by painting, singing, in theatrical or other artistic creativity showed persistence to remain true to their beliefs notwithstanding violence, prosecution, death threats, etc.

Copies of the Kurt Westergaard's drawing shown above will be sold to raise the initial finance for the foundation. As well as an annual prize, the foundation may offer advice and information to those who are or may find themselves in difficulties because of their exercise of free speech, especially when that free speech relates to our Mohammedan friends.

The website of the Westergaard Foundation will eventually be here but it is not currently available.
