The Berlin Senator Ehrhart Körting (SPD - Socialists) has called for the German domestic intelligence agency, Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) [MI5 equivalent], to abandon the use of the word "islamism" in its annual reports on dangers to the German constitution. It seems the German public do not sufficiently understand the difference between Islam and Islamism, despite the best efforts of academics to explain it. (The German people are not alone in this.) So, perhaps they should just refer to Islam or "Islamic extremists" instead? No, says the senator. That would stigmatise Islam. They should just be called "extremists".
